Jamshedpur, June 3: Very soon, city-based Tribal Culture Centre (TCC) would sport an ethnic look.

The TCC will be done up in typically tribal colours like yellow ochre, terracotta and a combination of black and white.

The amphitheatre will see significant structural changes. Curved arches surrounding the amphitheatre that are reminiscent of Mughal architecture would be straightened as befits a tribal structure. The lanes leading to rooms at the centre would be narrowed using terracotta tiles for a rural flavour, and a wall punctured to let audience glimpse the natural landscape during performances.

This ambitious renovation is undertaken by Tribal Cultural Society, TCC’s parent body, and will cost around Rs 3 crore. A leading city-based architectural firm has been commissioned for the 6-month project.

“A look that brings to mind traditional tribal akharas or evening entertainment zones, is what we want to achieve,” said R.K Singh, Head of Tribal Services at TCC.

Jaher. or the sacred grove of the tribals, would be placed inside the centre premises. Also on the anvil is an artisan village where rural artistes can gather to share ideas and display products once every month.

Proposed measures to enhance the ambience include diffused lighting and environment-friendly cups and saucers that tribals use. Safety measures have not been neglected, a source added.
