Jamshedpur, Feb. 17: Jamshedpur Co-operative College, a constituent unit of Kolhan University, is working to renovate its college infrastructure after two decades at a total cost of Rs 31 lakh.
On cards is the renovation and extension of the library, construction of reading rooms, lecture halls, sitting arena, et al.
Last month, Kolhan University vice chancellor Salil Roy had given a strict directive to the college to upgrade its necessary infrastructure.
Students feel that the library, which almost used to remain vacant, will thrive after the renovation. The renovated library will have a reading room for its students, which was missing since so many years. The library will also be extended and all the 57,000 books available in the library will be re-arranged.
“Concerned faculty members will do away with outdated books and suggest the new books that needs to be scored. This is the first time that students will also get a study room, commonly known as the reading room to read reference books and take notes, which was not possible earlier,” said principal of the college A.K. Sinha.
Carpenters are at work all day to come up with modified desks and chairs in the reading room. The white washing will also give a fresh look to the library.
“This is the first time that we have witnessed any kind of positive work in the college campus. Finally, we can now spend time in the library,” said a final year student of the college Pawan Pandey.
This is not all. The college has also proposed the renovation of all the four lecture halls. Right from the ceiling to the dampened walls, all will be repaired very soon.
Toilets, which had earlier proved to be a nightmare for students and staff, will also be renovated.
“We want the college campus to be clean. There have been many times that students have complained about the poor condition of toilets, which will also be taken care of this time,” added Sinha.
Very soon, students will also have a better place to spend time in the campus as the college has planned for a sitting arena in front of the main building.
The arena will boast of iron benches for the students with a seating capacity of 100 students.
“It feels good when you see something good happening in the campus. I hope things materialise till we pass out,” said a second year student Pallavi Kumari.
