Jamshedpur: South Eastern Railway on Sunday provided an extra coach each in Tata-Chhapra Express and South Bihar Express to tackle the heavy rush of candidates who had come to the steel city to appear for the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) exam.

The move is aimed at lessening the inconvenience of passengers travelling in the Bihar-bound trains with reserved tickets.

Over 20,000 examinees, mostly from Bihar and Jharkhand, had gathered at Tatanagar station to catch trains back home. Most of them were travelling without tickets and tried to force their way into the reserved and AC compartments.

RPF inspector (Tatanagar) M.K. Singh said they had held a meeting with the station officers and Government Railway Police on ways to handle the unusual turnout of candidates three days back.

A petition requesting extra coaches in the Bihar-bound trains was submitted to the divisional railway authority in Chakradharpur, which cleared the proposal.

"As of now, one coach each has been provided in Tata-Chhapra Express and Durg-Danapur South Bihar Express on Sunday," Singh said.

The RPF inspector said they had also expected an additional coach in Tata-Jammu Tawi Express.

The exam for the post of constable in the IRB was conducted for the third consecutive Sunday. There are 31 centres in the steel city where the candidates turn up for the written test held between 9 am and 2 pm in two sessions.

Over 7.5 lakh candidates are appearing for the exam to fill up 2,810 vacancies.
