Exclusive NCC unit on campus

n Students of Abdul Bari Memorial College, Jamshedpur, are looking forward to honing their leadership skills and add discipline to their lives. A National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit was inaugurated by S Yadav, commanding officer, 37 Jharkhand Batallion, NCC.

Yadav said NCC plays an important role towards developing the personality of an individual. ?NCC instils a sense of discipline and in students and also spoke to them about the m the value of time. Students should join in large numbers as it will have a positive effect on them,? said Yadav. He also assured his assistance for opening a separate wing of NCC for female students of the college.

Principal R.K. Das emphasised that the college will work to support the NCC unit so that students can make best use of it. He added that the college will ensure that a large number of students take active interest in it. Several students and faculty members were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Labour laws

n Corporate personalities from across the country will assemble at Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) to participate in the National Industrial Relations conference scheduled to be held on January 22. The conference will be organised by FIRE@X , the forum for industrial relations at XLRI. The conference will focus on ?New economy bandwagon? and experts will also discuss labour laws in software industries.

FIRE@X secretary Kevin Savio Freitas said preparations are in progress and about 100 delegates are expected to participate in the conference.

Shooting skills

n Members of National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College (LBSM) got an opportunity to display their shooting skills at the Section Fire Attack programme. Over 300 cadets from the college participated in the programme.

Noise of shots filled the air as the cadets competed to prove their shooting skills. Sheshank Yadav, commanding officer, 37 Jharkhand Batallion, NCC, inspected the cadets and lauded their performance.

Former principal of LBSM college, Digambar Hansda, said the NCC unit of the college is one of the best in the city and the cadets have immense talent.

Bar council visit

n The stage has been set at Jamshedpur Cooperative College to welcome the Bar Council team, which will inspect the college from January 20. The law course at the college is still waiting for reaffiliation from the council.

The college authorities are keeping their fingers crossed and are hoping that the council will be happy with the college?s facilities. ?We are prepared for the team?s visit . We have quality education system coupled with a good faculty. We are hoping to impress the council team so that law course can be started at the college soon,? said an official.

New jobs

n Professor G.D. Mishra took charge of as dean of Ranchi University?s science faculty. University spokesperson S.S. Akhtar said Mishra had been made the new dean of science after T.K. Sadhu completed his one-year tenure this month.

The university also nominated coordinator of vocational courses P.K. Verma as coordinator of Ranchi University Statutes Committee. Legal cell in-charge Jyoti Kumar has been nominated as member of the committee, university sources said.

Examination forms

n Part I students of B.A, B.Sc. and B.Com. in Ranchi University got a much needed respite when the the last date for submission of examination forms was extended. The students can now buy registration forms from their colleges and submit them by January 20. The university had earlier fixed December 20 as the last date for submission of forms. Varsity authorities extended the date as principals on the behest of several colleges in Ranchi and Jamshedpur. University sources said most students could not fill up the forms because of winter holidays. ?Since most students had not submitted their forms, we could not forward any form to the university. We could not ignore the sizable number of our students who could not fill up the forms,? said the principal of a city-based college.
