The mutilated body of a 25-year-old electrician was found at an alley near Station-Kitadih Road, around 100 metres from Tatanagar station, in the wee hours of Monday with police hinting at an illicit relationship as a probable cause of the brutal murder.
Rajendra Tiwary, a resident of Gwala bustee in Kitadih, was found half naked with his throat slit and private parts slashed in a pool of blood around 5am.
Bagbera police have sent the body to MGM Medical College for autopsy after registering a murder case on the basis of a statement by the victim's elder brother, Rajesh Tiwary.
Officer-in-charge of Bagbera police station Budhram Oraon said they had picked up one Pappu Yadav (25), a friend and neighbour of the victim, from his house in the morning for questioning.
"Pappu had come to our house and took my brother along with him around midnight. The two did not return. Around 5.30am, we were informed by the police that Rajendra had been murdered," Rajesh said.
Bagbera OC Oraon said the murder, which may have been committed between 1am and 4am, came to light when a patrolling team was returning to the police station around 5am.
"The policemen spotted a big crowd on Station-Kitadih Road. Curious, they stopped and were told about the body by someone in the crowd," said Oraon.
The OC said they were clueless about the motive and would like to keep all options open.
"It is yet to be ascertained who murdered him and why. Prima facie, the reason appears to be an illicit affair, given the modus operandi. However, we have not yet found any more clues to support that. We are investigating the case and will soon solve the mystery," Oraon said.
An electrician by profession, Rajendra also ran a motor garage at Golpahari, about a kilometre from his house at Kitadih.
Local residents were in a state of shock.
"The man used to roam around eateries on Station-Parsudih Road, particularly during late evenings. It is shocking to hear of someone murdered so brutally," said Jagat Narayan, who runs a milk shop near the station area.
