Hazaribagh, Nov. 16: A doctor posted at Bokaro’s Nawadih hospital was arrested today after his 17-year-old daughter complained to the police that he had been assaulting and raping her for the last six years.

The arrest followed an FIR which was lodged on the instructions of superintendent of police Pankaj Kamboj after he spoke to the victim and her mother.

The girl, who lives with her parents and two brothers at Anandpuri Mohalla here, alleged she was first raped by her father when she was 11 years old. Thereafter, he would often force her to consume alcohol and also mix sedatives in her food, before raping her.

Recounting her tale of horror, the teenager told Kamboj that her father spared no one. He even forced himself on his mother-in-law, who, the girl claimed, died of shock on September 14 this year.

Once when she dared to revolt, the doctor locked her up in a room for two months. The victim claimed every time she refused to follow her father’s instructions, she would be beaten up.

After hearing the girl’s version, Kamboj summoned her mother and brothers to hear their side of the story. Convinced by their account, he ordered an FIR against the doctor, who was arrested this afternoon.

The girl told the police she cleared her Class XII examinations from a prominent school in the city this year. “I took admission in a coaching institute to prepare for the MBBS entrance examination. But my father forced me to leave when I threatened to go to the police to complain about the torture,” she said.

When approached by The Telegraph at the Hazaribagh sadar hospital where the girl was brought for medical tests, her mother refused to comment.
