Travelling to Jaipur this summer from Jamshedpur will be easier than before.
For, South Eastern Railway (SER)'s new train to the Pink City, the Shalimar-Jaipur Weekly AC Summer Special Express, will begin operations from April 3 and the train will go via Tatanagar railway station.
A SER spokesperson from Calcutta's Garden Reach headquarters said the train would run till June 28 and might be extended or regularised depending on passenger response.
The Shalimar-Jaipur AC Special (08061) will leave Santragachi on Mondays at 8.20am and reach Tatanagar at 12am every Tuesday. It will stop for five minutes at Tatanagar and reach Jaipur on Wednesday at 6.35am.
From Jaipur, the train (08062) will leave at 12.45pm every Wednesday and arrive at Tatanagar at 7.10pm on Thursdays. After a 5-minute halt, it will proceed to Shalimar the same day.
The train with six AC-II, 10 AC-III coaches and two EOG (end on generation) power cars (carrying DG sets) will stop at Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bilaspur, Pendra Road, Katni, Murwara, Damoh, Sagour, Guna , Kota, Bansthali Niwai, Durgapura and Jaipur.
Presently, there is no direct train to Jaipur from Tatanagar. The only way residents of the steel city got there was to travel to New Delhi from where they took another train for Jaipur.
Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the oldest and largest trade outfit of Kolhan, has been demanding such a direct train to Jaipur for long. On Tuesday, it welcomed the move.
"Our demand for a direct train to Jaipur has been met. We want the railways to regularise the train as a sizeable number of people from steel city travel to Jaipur, which is their native place," Vijay Anand Moonka, a senior SCCI functionary, told The Telegraph.
He said SCCI would run a Facebook and WhatsApp campaign to inform members about the new train to Jaipur. A senior railway official at Garden Reach said whether the train would be extended or made a regular one would depend on the commercial viability.
