In this e-age, the learning process in some schools located on the steel city’s outskirts is getting an e-edge.
Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) has teamed up with Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) to introduce an interactive learning and teaching solution called Tata Class Edge in schools located in the steel major’s area of operation.
Debdoot Mohanty, secretary of TSRDS, launched the new-age educational solution for students of Classes VII to X at Sidhu Kanhu Shiksha Niketan in Dimna on Tuesday.
A complete digital system, comprising LCD screens, digital boards and computers, was installed in six classrooms, one of them being the server classroom. A five-hour training session was held for the teachers. A similar set-up will be also introduced at Sidhu Kanhu High School in Kedo near Sundernagar in the coming days.
“Tata Class Edge, one of the products of TIS, is a complete technology-enabled classroom solution that will revolutionise teaching and learning of subjects like math, science, social science and languages. It is a holistic classroom solution that not only makes the teaching process interactive by using visual means but also helps teachers create question papers and analyse students’ performance,” said Dilith Castleton, joint secretary, TSRDS.
A representative from TIS will be monitoring the system with guidance for the next one year, before the teachers becomes expert in handling it. The initiative has been taken for these underprivileged schools as they don’t have access to state-of-the-art education facilities.
“This step will improve the quality of education in schools, where updated infrastructure is the main concern. The methods of teaching too have to be improved and this is a small step towards that goal,” said Mohanty.
