Ranchi, June 16: Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has lodged an FIR against the directors of a Calcutta-based company, Gameplan Sports Private Limited, for allegedly cheating him of Rs.10.5 crore.
The FIR was lodged yesterday on the basis of a complaint sent by Dhoni through courier from Chennai to the Doranda police station.
The three directors named in the FIR are Jeet Banerjee, Indrajeet Banerjee and Malavika Banerjee, all residents of Calcutta, with a registered office at Shakespeare Sarani.
Senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar today confirmed that an FIR had been lodged by Dhoni but expressed his inability to provide details.
Officer-in-charge of the said police station, Harishchand Singh, however, said the FIR charged the directors with receiving money from various companies and advertisers on behalf of Dhoni, but not passing the same to the latter.
The FIR, Singh said, also accuses the company of negligence in discharging duties. The FIR suggests that Dhoni allowed the company to work as his manager-cum-agent for three years from February 1, 2005 to January 31, 2008. He then permitted it to act as his agent on freelance basis in connection with the three agreements which were executed by Team India captain with Bharat Petroleum, Titan Industries and Lafarge Cement.
“Dhoni made several attempts to get his money. He met the directors in February 2010, and they had requested him not to take any legal action on the assurance that they would refund the money. But later they did not even take Dhoni’s calls, compelling him to lodge an FIR,” an officer at Doranda police station said.
