Around 40 members of Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha, the JMM students' wing, demonstrated inside Jamshedpur Women's College campus on Wednesday to demand intermediate admission forms.

Protesters, who gathered on campus at 11am, locked principal Sujata Sinha's office for one-and-a-half hours.

Luckily for her, Sinha was at Kolhan University, Chaibasa, on official work.

Since Jamshedpur Women's College is yet to make the intermediate section a separate wing, as was prescribed by University Grants Commission (UGC), the cradle is not distributing admission forms. Other colleges have started the admission procedure.

But, the Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha believes the college wants to scrap its intermediate section.

"The college basically wants to do away with the intermediate section, which will leave 3,500 students in the lurch, because this is the most sought-after institution for girls in the city," claimed Md Sarfaraz, Morcha secretary.

Finally, college faculty member Kakoli Basakh, the in-charge in Sinha's absence, intervened, giving students in writing that intermediate admission forms would be distributed from May 25. "I spoke to our principal (Sujata Sinha) over phone. She told me the process would start from May 25. We have sent prospectus for printing."

The Morcha threatened to start an indefinite stir if the college went back on its word.
