Dhanbad Municipal Corporation launches online marriage registration

Certificates will be sent to newly-wed couples by email

If banking and food ordering can be made online, why not marriage registration, and taking this thought forward the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) has kicked off online marriage registration through their website www.jharseva.Jharkhand.gov.in, and email delivery of the certificate.

Earlier, marriage registration used to be carried out through the office of the sub registration, where there used be a huge rush of applicants. Now in the online mode, marriage registration will be done within 14 days after submission of relevant documents.

Talking to The Telegraph Online Executive officer of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation, Md Anis, who has been appointed as the marriage registrar, said, “Not only online application but the marriage certificates will also be provided online by email.”

A fee of Rs 50 has been fixed for marriage registration certificate, which will however be free for people under BPL. A fine of Rs 100 will be charged for marriages which took place at least a year before.

The applicants will have to be present at the time allotted for verification of all relevant 13 documents, which should have been pre-verified by a gazetted officer.

Any objection to the application can be submitted within 15 days and the applicant couple will also have to be present once at DMC office during the process of verification of documents etc and particularly before the issuance of certificate.

Talking about the list of documents required to be submitted or the certificate, Anis said, "The filled up application form containing the name, marriage details, place of marriage, address of marriage venue, documents such as signed photographs of wife and husband, a pair of photographs of the couple, signed photographs of three witnesses, age certificate of wife and husband (Aadhaar card or class X certificate), marriage invitation card, residential certificates of three witnesses, residential certificates of wife and husband, identity proof of wife and husband (Aadhaar Card) and BPL certificates of wife and husband in case of BPL are required."

He added, “Owing to the necessity of maintaining social distancing we are calling only a limited number of couples for verification at the office, so we called only two couples during the first half on Thursday.” Anis said that couples are being called to receive the certificates starting from Thursday.
