Dhanbad, Nov. 11: Left-arm spinner from the coal capital Shahbaz Nadim has been selected for the Under-15 Indian cricket team. Towards the end of this month, the team will tour Sharjah, where the budding cricketers will get several opportunities to display their skills.

Shahbaz, the son of a police inspector, started playing for the local Indigo Club four years ago.

According to Manoj Singh of Dhanbad Cricket Association, impressed by Shahbaz’s performance at Indigo Club, the veterans inducted him to the district junior team. “He has never looked back since,” Singh added.

Thereafter, he represented Under-16 and Under-19 teams at the inter-district matches organised by Bihar Cricket Association (BCA). Shahbaz was then selected for the state Under-14 and Under-16 teams. This year too, he was part of the Bihar Under-14 squad.

After evaluating his bowling skills at matches organised by BCCI to pick budding talent for the Under-15 Indian cricket team, former test cricketer Vengsarkar selected him for the 15-day training camp. However, his parents were not aware of the good news till late last evening. “My son has been playing cricket for quite some time now. But, I never knew that he is so talented,” said his mother over telephone.
