Call it art for society’s sake.
A Ranchi-based artist is all set for a colour crusade — putting various social problems on his canvas — during a group art exhibition scheduled to be held at Rabindra Bhavan, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, from July 8.
Vinod Ranjan, who is quite well known for his focus on contemporary social issues in art, will rub shoulders with five other artists of national repute at the week-long exhibition.
Christened Antarbodh, which is an insight into the psyche of self-realisation, Ranjan’s works will depict his take on issues such as female foeticide, earthquakes, the rise and fall of a man, ambition of human beings, their frailties and strengths, among other vivid topics.
Apart from Ranjan, the other participants whose works would be showcased are Subroto Mandal from Rajasthan, Binita Bandhyopadhyay from Bokaro, Jitendra Kumar from Dhanbad, Rakhi Kumari and Arun Kumar from Delhi.
It will also be the first time that Ranjan’s paintings will be showcased at the event since he applied for participation around a couple of years ago.
“I am excited. I have been trying to participate in this event for two years,” he said.
Prodded about the selection of themes, Ranjan said that Satyameva Jayate host Aamir Khan had forced him to think on female foeticide after he highlighted the issue on national television in an episode.
“I wanted to spread awareness about it through my art. The other themes include earthquakes and the trail of destruction, the rise and fall of human beings,” Ranjan said.
