Ranchi, Feb. 27: Ranchi University has decided to award degree certificates in Hindi and English.

Fees for the certificate will be charged at the time of filling up the examination forms.

Describing the move as student-friendly, university sources said earlier the students, who wanted certificates in English had to run from pillar to post, as they were issued only in Hindi.

“Each time a student applied for the certificate, he had to make several rounds of the university accounts office to get the challaan issued as the charge incurred towards the certificate. The change effected today will help students,” university sources.

The decision was taken at the meeting of postgraduate heads at university headquarters here today. The meeting was presided over by vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha.

In another development, university spokesperson S.S. Akhtar said the meeting decided to increase the number of seats at the postgraduate department to facilitate admissions to the hordes of students coming to the capital from different parts of the state.

The postgraduate heads have been asked to furnish the university office with relevant details and a proposal to increase the number of seats by about 25 per cent in each department by tomorrow.

Akhtar said the heads of departments would have to give a comparative list of candidates in proportion to teachers so that the university can forward it to the government for recruitment of teachers.
