Jamshedpur, March 27: A gang of 20 robbers swooped on Sigma Industries in Phase II of the Adityapur Industrial Area on Sunday night and decamped with copper wire worth more than Rs 25 lakh.

Sources alleged that the criminals entered the factory premises by jumping over its boundary wall. They locked the watchmen in a room before fleeing with the booty. The watchmen were rescued and the policemen informed only next morning after the company workmen turned up.

The robbers, who had come in a truck, followed the same modus operandi that they had resorted to earlier. They entered the factory premises at night and decamped with raw material having tied up the guards.

A fortnight ago, a similar gang had decamped with iron rods worth Rs 10 lakh from Rukmini Enterprises from Adityapur Industrial Area. Earlier, dacoits had decamped with a truckload of copper nozzles worth Rs 9 lakh from an industry in Adityapur.

Meanwhile, a band of criminals also swooped over Vimaldeep Steel and Saha High Tech, both in the Adityapur Industrial area and decamped with cash worth Rs 4.8 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh respectively from the lockers of the company. The money was kept in the offices for the purpose of salary payment.

Inspector of Adityapur police station B.D. Singh claimed to have identified the gang behind the series of robberies and said arrests would be made soon.
