Jamshedpur: Severe cyclonic storm Ockhi, which has claimed the lives of at least 13 people in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, would impact Jharkhand's weather, too.

Weathermen on Sunday said the storm, which is currently over east central and southeast Arabian Sea, would gain more power and move northwest in the next 24 hours before recurving towards northeast.

"This would result in formation of clouds in southern Jharkhand, including Jamshedpur, from Monday. Cloud formation would also take place over Ranchi and several other places from December 5 because of the impact of the storm. This would stay till December 7," said S.C Mandal, an official at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Ranchi IMD office also predicted extension of cloudy conditions in southern Jharkhand even after December 7 because of the formation of another system. "Today's chart analysis and satellite pictures suggested formation of a well-marked low pressure over southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to convert into a depression after 72 hours and then intensify into a deep depression. This would impact the state's weather," said the official. He also did not rule out possibility of rain in Kolhan region around December 8-9 because of the impact of the depression.

The Patna IMD centre also issued a similar forecast for Jharkhand. "The two strong atmospheric circulations would have its impact on Jharkhand's weather condition," said a duty officer.

Both Patna and Ranchi Met centres in their forecast for the next five days indicated rise in minimum readings and a downward trend in day's temperature. The minimum reading in Jamshedpur was expected to rise to 14°C during the next three to four days due to the impact of the adverse weather condition. Similarly, Ranchi's night readings was expected to rise to 13°C around December 9. The maximum readings at both the places would hover between 24-25°C around December 8-9.

Meanwhile, Sunday's Met data revealed that sub-10 chill prevailed in most parts of the state because of the dominating northwesterly currents. Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C, one notch below normal, while the steel city recorded 10.1°C, two notches below normal.

Daltonganj and Bokaro recorded night readings of 9.5°C and 9.7°C, respectively. While, night temperature in Daltonganj was one notch below normal, it was four notches down in Bokaro. Chaibasa and Seraikela-Kharsawan district recorded around 10.5°C. In both the places, the minimum reading was two notches below normal.
