Ranchi, May 14: It will be cheap, eco-friendly and will also save fuel.

City-based organisation — Rohini Science Club will be forming a cycle club as a part of the go-green campaign to mark World Environment Day on June 5.

Besides, the club has also started a cycle campaign for cycling enthusiasts of the city. Titled A cycle ride, the 15km journey will start from Zila School on May 23 and cover Lalpur, Karamtoli, Morabadi, Kanke road, Kutchery and culminating at Zila School. “All the participants will be given useful tips on safe cycling before the ride,” said the founder director of Rohini Science Club, G.V.S.R Prasad.

“Youngsters using bikes may switch over to cycling to avoid traffic congestion after the club is formed.

“I have seen that a number of people are increasingly taking up cycling due to heavy traffic flow in big cities. Our club has thus decided to promote cycling as zero pollution, healthy and low cost sustainable mode of transport,” said the founder director.

He added that the newly formed club would consist of 15-20 members, who would promote the cause of cycling by visiting different colonies. “The idea is to promote cycling among youth, keeping in view the traffic jams and health issues. We decided to promote cycling in the state capital as traffic congestion has become a major problem here,” Prasad added.

One of the enthusiastic cycle riders, Rajat Sinha, who works at a private firm, is looking forward to be a member of the club and is also willing to join the campaign. “Cycling is the best means of transport to reach office in time,” Sinha said.

Cycling is also good as it is a complete exercise for heart patients, pointed out city- based health experts.
