Jamshedpur, Dec. 25: It was a rare occasion for the people of the steel city as they got an opportunity to listen to some of the best Urdu poets in the country today.
At a mushaira, which was organised by the Anjuman Taraqqi (Urdu) Hind of Jamshedpur, the lovers of shayaris enjoyed the recitals in different flavours.
Having to sit in open pandals in the chilly weather did not deter the people to come and thoroughly enjoy the event, which was organised at the Gopal Maidan in Bistupur.
The topics at the mushaira were diverse and included Urdu, the prevailing political situation in the country and the cultural heritage and traditions.
But love affairs continued to steal the show, as usual.
Using couplets, many poets tried to underline the need for creating mushairas out of “wine and beauty”.
They conveyed a message to the new generation that the age-old tradition and cultural heritage of the country should be preserved at any cost.
However, eminent poet Nida Fazli could not make it to the event till it was almost over, perhaps limiting the enjoyment of the audience.
But other poets such as Krishna Kumar Toor, Rahat Indori, Ahmad Rais, Maikash Amrohi, Tahir Faraz, Atik Allahabadi and Sikandar Hayat ‘Gadbad’, among others, enthralled the audience with their couplets.
