Dhanbad will have no new containment zone despite the detection of two new Covid-19 patients because the mother-son duo whose reports came positive on Saturday night did not come in contact with anybody here and were directly rushed to the hospital on their arrival from Mumbai on Friday.

However, the district that was supposed to be declared a green zone on Sunday, will continue to be in the orange zone following the two new cases.

At present, there are two containment zones in Dhanbad.

Talking to The Telegraph on Sunday, Dhanbad deputy commissioner (DC) Amit Kumar said: “The mother-son duo, originally residents of Jamadoba in Jharia, had been staying in Mumbai since October 2019 in connection with the blood cancer treatment of the 78-year-old woman. They were sent to the isolation ward at PMCH soon after their arrival in the district. No new containment zone would be set up because they didn’t stay anywhere in the district after coming back.”

The 38-year-old man, a small garment trader, and his mother were living at a gurdwara in Mumbai. They came back to Dhanbad in an ambulance on May 8 and first went to Nirsa Primary Health Centre. For there, they were taken to PMCH because of high fever.

At PMCH, they were kept in the isolation ward and their samples were tested. After their results came positive on Saturday, they were shifted to the Central Hospital at night.
