Infrastructure conglomerate Adani Group extended its support to the Chief Minister’s Kitchen in Ranchi on Tuesday.

A representative of Adani Group in Ranchi went to the CM’s Kitchen near Morabadi ground on Tuesday afternoon to hand over rice, flour and oil to those managing it.

“They contributed 500kg of basmati rice, 500kg of atta and 500 litres of refined oil to the kitchen,” informed Siddharth Chaudhary, spokesperson of the local chapter of Round Table that has been managing the kitchen run by the state government for supplying cooked food to the poor and the needy during the lockdown.

“Our company has already made financial contributions to the PM Cares fund and also to some state governments, including that of Jharkhand, for fighting the novel coronavirus,” Satish Verma, Adani Group’s representative in Ranchi, told The Telegraph, adding they also decided to be associated with the CM’s Kitchen.

“We came to know about the kitchen and got associated with it. We may again try to contribute like this at a later stage, if the need arises,” he said when asked if their company would be making such contributions again.

Chief minister Hemant Soren had inaugurated the kitchen on March 31 and distributed cooked food packets to the needy present there at that time.

“The sudden lockdown has certainly caused many problems but we must see that no one sleeps hungry,” the CM had said on the occasion.

He had also flagged off delivery vans loaded with such packets for distributing among the needy at different locations of the state capital.

The kitchen has since been running regularly. While Ranchi district administration supplies the materials, Round Table members manage it.

“About 3.25 lakh packets of cooked food have been distributed from the kitchen so far,” Chaudhary informed, adding those are taken to different areas of the city by delivery vans that are sent by the district administration.

“As of now, we think it will run till the end of the current month (May),” he further said when asked how long the kitchen would run.

Its further continuation would be decided by the government, he added.
