A consignment consisting of 363 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) was seized on the Burmamines-Station Road during a checking drive in the Burmamines police station limits late on Thursday night.

While seizing the liquor consignment, police arrested two persons, Mannu Yadav and Ramkumar Yadav, who are the driver and cleaner of an auto-rickshaw.

A third person, Ajay Birua, who was the alleged dealer of the liquor consignment, however, managed to escape when the police stopped the auto-rickshaw in which the liquor bottles were being carried.

Burmamines police station officer in-charge Vinodanand Singh said that the liquor consignment was being carried from Dipu Bustee in Burmamines. 'From the initial investigation we assume that the liquor seized from an auto-rickhsaw was spurious,” OC Singh said.

He said the auto-rickshaw, which has been seized, was meant to carry food grains from the Krishi Utpad Samity's warehouse in Parsudih to different places in the city.

“The administration had given a vehicle pass to the auto driver for operating during the lockdown. But he was carrying liquor,” said the OC.
