Large turnout for health camp

In a touching gesture of concern and unity, students of Graduate School College for Women, Jamshedpur, participated in a blood donation camp organised on the college campus recently. The camp was inaugurated by B. Bodhanwala, managing director of Tarapore and Company.

In his address, Bodhanwala lauded the whole-hearted effort made by the students towards a social cause. He said it is not important to know who the blood will eventually go to, but the donation will save someone?s life.

As part of an anaemia eradication drive, blood tests were carried out among students. Iron tablets were also distributed among them.

Senior faculty members of the college Nirmala Shukla, Mukul Khandelwal, Shipa Rao and Lashmi Jha were present on this occasion. The organising team thanked the faculty and the students for turning out in large numbers.

Finance seminar

Students of Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) got an opportunity to interact with USA-based alumni K.N. Venkatraman at a seminar ?Careers in Forex, risk management and derivatives market?. The finance association of XLRI, Finax, organised the session. A distinguished alumnus of the 1990 batch, Venkatraman owns a consultancy firm in Delaware, USA. The interactive session was conducted through video-conferencing.

Most questions posed by students were related to finance. Venkatraman said careers in finance can be diverse as it is a wide sector. He added that though India has opened its markets, it is only a small slice of the global pie. ?Nevertheless, the options are plenty. For global careers, it is essential that one makes a mark in the early years of his career. This helps in getting postings abroad. This is especially the case with international banks,? said Venkatraman.

Bharat mela

Ranchi University vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha has received an invitation from the Union government to participate in the Bharat Mela in Mauritius between March 2 and 6 this year. Sources said the university is yet to confirm the vice-chancellor's availability for the same. ?We will communicate vice-chancellor?s availability to the government by the end of this month.

LLM admissions

Authorities of Ranchi College announced the results of the entrance test conducted on February 11 for admissions into the L.L.M. course. According to principal Anand Bhushan, 20 of 78 aspirants were selected.

Ranchi University Syndicate has already approved the university?s decision of launching the course at Ranchi College. Classes for the same are scheduled to begin on February 25

Poll issues

Students of mass communication and video production department of Karim City College organised a debate, ?Film stars should be accepted as politicians?. Students exchanged views to convince the audience about their stand.

Rashmi Choubey, a first year student who spoke in favour of the topic, bagged the first prize while second year?s Lalit Dubey secured the second position. Sabina Khatoon of first year got the third prize.

Chief guest C. Bhaskar Rao lauded the performance of the students and said such competitions would help develop their personality.

Fun time for medicos

Fun and fanfare ruled the roost at ?Zest 2005? the Annual Day celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. The function, which started with a medical camp, coincided with Saraswati Puja celebrations. H.N. Ram, secretary of Aiada, was the chief guest.

A fete was organised with food stalls and games organised for students. ?It was an important day for us. We have been preparing for it for one month,? said a student.

Students of the 2003 batch played an important role towards making the event a memorable one.

In the evening, various cultural programmes were presented. Dance numbers presented by the budding doctors was the highlight of the show.
