Ranchi, Jan. 10: After holding power supply to the state to ransom for nearly three days, transporters resumed coal delivery to Tenughat Vidyut Nigam limited (TVNL) in Lalpania, Bokaro district, today.

The coal is being procured from Ramgarh and Hazaribagh based collieries of Central Coalfield Limited.

Power supply to the state was resumed late in the evening yesterday, with both the TVNL units being lit up and supplies being synchronised to the state grid today.

Officials said that normal supply would be restored by the end of the day.

Irked by the state government’s decision to not allow overloading of trucks, coal suppliers had virtually stopped transporting the fuel from Ramgarh and Hazaribagh collieries.

However, the state authorities finally managed to persuade the transporters to resume coal supply to TVNL, much to the relief of areas serviced by the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB), which had been reeling under acute power cuts.

TVNL officials said that they needed at least 7,000 tonnes of coal to run both units daily, thereby generating 420MW of electricity.

“Coal suppliers discussed the issue in Hazaribagh and Ramgarh districts. The matter was also taken up with the district deputy commissioners of both districts for an early and amicable solution,” said JSEB chairman Shiv Basant.

He added that that the suppliers had now been instructed to run as many trips as possible to make up for the power loss.
