Ranchi/Dhanbad, Nov. 1: The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) today reiterated its promise to help CIL double its production and achieve the 1,000 million tonnes target by 2019.

"In 1975, when Coal India was formed, the total coal production averaged 79 million tonnes, which rose to 494 million tonnes in 2014. CMPDI has been partnering CIL in enhancing production in the country. The company will play a leading role to help CIL achieve the production target by 2019," D.K. Ghosh, director (technical), CMPDI, said while addressing a gathering of employees today.

CMPDI, which commemorated the 41st CIL Foundation Day amid much pomp and fanfare today, is set to undertake 15 lakh meters of exploratory drilling to identify newer coal reserves during the current 2015-16 fiscal - a target 80 per cent higher than that of the previous year.

Ghosh stressed that the Ranchi-based think tank remained committed to augmenting production despite challenges like delays in obtaining forest clearances, law and order problems etc.

Another CIL subsidiary, CCL, led chief vigilance officer Arbind Prasad, also celebrated the day.

Addressing the gathering on the CCL campus, Prasad said that PSU had touched new heights by registering a production growth of 14 per cent up to October 31. He added that CCL had a coal stock of 9.7 million tonne on April 1, out of which 4.3 MT had been dispatched to buyers.

Prasad added that CCL would contribute with production of 150 MT towards CIL's 1,000 million tonnes target.

In Dhanbad, BCCL, also a CIL subsidiary, organised an exhibition at its community centre as a part of the two-day celebrations.

Community development programmes, eco-restoration, irrigation and pisciculture, and rainwater harvesting were displayed though a wide-range of models.

The exhibition apart, a host of programmes, including a morning procession, sports meets for physically challenged children and cultural events, were organised in the day. A medical camp for BCCL employees, a poets' meet and a felicitation programme for retired employees will be held on Monday.
