Ranchi, July 23: The state government will give final shape to rules to safeguard interests of depositors, primarily in non-banking and chit fund companies, by July 31.

Principal secretary of finance Amit Khare, who held a review of the institutional finance department today, said non-banking and chit fund companies that wanted to operate in any district of Jharkhand needed to inform the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police concerned in writing with its operational details.

"All deputy commissioners will be authorised to receive complaints, if any, from depositors," Khare added.

Sources maintained that once a deputy commissioner filed a report, the finance secretary would be the competent authority to act against the rogue company by way of confiscating bank accounts and other properties. If need be, after obtaining an order from a court, seized properties can be auctioned as well.

In a separate development, the Centre has included 100 villages of Jharkhand under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana. The list includes 36 villages of Chatra, 22 of Palamau, 18 of Deoghar, 14 of Hazaribagh and 10 of Giridih. These villages, where the population comprises more than 50 per cent Scheduled Caste families, will receive Rs 20 lakh each from the Centre and state for model development.

Vigilance probe

Chief minister Raghubar Das has ordered a vigilance probe into illegal transfer/settlement of government land. The glare is mainly on around 65 acres in Charwa dam area and 200 acres near Panchsheel Residency in Hazaribagh.
