Chandigarh University, a private institution set up in 2012 with over 30,000 students, launched its regional office-cum-facilitation centre in Dhanbad on Wednesday.

The office, situated on the third floor of Sri Ram Plaza in Bank More, will act as a regional admission centre and provide free career counselling tips to students here.

According to Prabhdeep Singh, head of department of journalism and mass communication of Chandigarh University, 700 of their students were from Jharkhand, 120 from Dhanbad alone.

"Out of 700 students from Jharkhand, 93 have been successfully placed in reputed companies and 21 of them got received multiple job offers," said Singh.

"Academic performance of students from Jharkhand is the third best in our university after Punjab and NCR," said Singh, adding the varsity announced a full scholarship for meritorious students of Jharkhand who secured 85 per cent and more in their last exam.

The regional centre, headed by university representative Vivek Tiwary, will help students from Jharkhand get migration and transfer certificates easily. Students don't have to go all the way to Chandigarh.

This apart, parents will be able to get attendance details of their children and review their academic performance.

The varsity also plans to provide special scholarship schemes for ST/SC students.

Chandigarh University offers a wide range of UG and PG courses in engineering, management, tourism and hospitality, pharmaceutical science, architecture, biotechnology, agricultural science, legal studies, media studies, animation, film production, visual arts, education, computing, commerce and science.
