Promising all-rounder Anukul Roy is tipped to captain the state U-19 team in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the upcoming Vinoo Mankad Trophy (East Zone) and Cooch Behar Trophy for 2016-17 season.

The 18-year-old Roy, who turned up in Jharkhand colours in Vijay Merchant Trophy, is a left-handed middle-order batsman and a dependable left-arm spinner.

He plays for West Singhbhum in JSCA tournaments. Roy, who originally hails from Samastipur in Bihar, earlier used to don Seraikela-Kharsawan jersey in the local matches.

"We had appointed Roy as the U-19 skipper for the just concluded 8th All India Vaibhav Memorial tournament held in Meerut earlier this month. We would like him to continue as captain for the upcoming Cooch Behar Trophy and Vinoo Mankad Trophy," a JSCA office bearer said.

The young batsman scored 226 runs in six matches (nine innings) at an average of 28.25 in the Cooch Behar Trophy and 128 runs in four matches averaging 32 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy last season.

While the Vinoo Mankad Trophy (East Zone) is scheduled in Dhanbad from October 2 to 16, Cooch Behar Trophy will be played at different venues, including Jamshedpur and Ranchi, between November 5 to December 15.
