Ranchi, Oct. 9: CBI sleuths today raided the houses and offices of a central public works department (CPWD) executive engineer in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Patna in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
Four teams from the CBI's anti-corruption branch carried out search in the three cities simultaneously a day after the agency filed an FIR against Rajesh Kumar for allegedly amassing property worth Rs 1.68 crore beyond his known source of income.
Kumar is currently coordinating CPWD projects at NIT in Jamshedpur.
While a team went to Kumar's flat at Lakshmi Apartment in Argora, Ranchi, another team searched his house at PC Colony in Kankarbag locality of Patna.
The third and fourth teams raided his official residence and office at NIT, Jamshedpur.
"The evidences gathered during initial investigations and documents seized during today's raids confirm the charges of disproportionate assets against Kumar," said a senior CBI official, without spelling out the details of the seizures made during the daylong raids.
Sources confided that the sleuths had seized documents related to property, including houses in Ranchi and Noida and land in Sasaram, Bihar.
Apart from fixed deposits of Rs 37-40 lakh, the CBI teams also found bank accounts, which revealed unusual transactions. Kumar's family apparently owns a gas agency, ATN Indane, in Sasaram.
"Huge sums were deposited to the company's account. Also, CBI seized more than a dozen of sale deeds valued worth a crore," said a source.
