Ranchi, Jan. 24: Calligrapher Anis Siddique bowled over students of Bishop’s School, Bara Bazar, at the two-day workshop on calligraphy that concluded here today.
The workshop was organised by SpicMacay on the school’s premises as part of its efforts to promote awareness about Indian art and culture among the people of the state.
According to Siddique, a person’s handwriting is a reflection of his thought process. Calligraphy can help judge a person’s nature and his educational background, said Anis.
“I can judge a person’s character by simple analysing his/her handwriting. And trust me, I am not a soothsayer,” said Anis whose work has won him laurels from different parts of the world.
The 50-odd students of Bishop’s School, who took part in the workshop, looked visibly excited as Anis explained the art of studying handwriting. “I have tried to explain in a nutshell all I know about calligraphy,” said Anis, who won a National Award in 1984.
As for the children, it seemed that Anis had cast a spell on them. They could not stop talking about him. “Anis sir is an excellent teacher. I learned so much from him. I have gained so much knowledge in such a short span of time,” said a student.
Anis, however, was not satisfied with just two days of what he called “brushing one’s writing skills”.“It needs at least a week for a child to gain command over calligraphic writing,” he said.
“I want to promote calligraphy among youths in the state. Art in any form brings peace. I am also trying to promote the Madhubani painters with the help of SpicMacay,” said Anis.
