Jamshedpur, Feb. 12: Teachers of the school that was pulled into the MMS controversy this morning approached the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner demanding action against ABVP activists and the news organisations that flashed the news.

The teachers told the deputy commissioner that the incident had tarnished the reputation of the school and the administration must take immediate action against the accused. The teachers also accused the ABVP activists of taking law into their hands and disturbing the decorum of the school after newspaper reports stated that a girl student was filmed naked and the clippings were being circulated in the city.

A teacher of the school said: “Today it was our school, tomorrow similar attacks can take place on other city institutions. Therefore, being teachers, we thought the issue must be brought to the notice of the authorities as this incident has damaged the reputation of our school.”

However, deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Nitin Madan Kulkarni has refused to take action. “The administration has no role to play in this issue as no formal complaint has been lodged against anybody, nor do we have any evidence. Moreover, the police is investigating,” he said.

The authorities of the school did not say what the outcome of the meeting was. “Yes, the teachers met the deputy commissioner this morning but we are yet to draw up the final course of action,” said the principal concerned.

When asked if the school would take any action against the reporter or the activists, the principal said they are looking into the matter.

Apart from the about-12 teachers who met the deputy commissioner, a team from the state chapter of the Christian Community Welfare Council of India also met Kulkarni, in the afternoon, and submitted a memorandum stating their displeasure over the issue.

“This is an attack on a minority school and as representatives of the Christian community in the city, we want the deputy commissioner to take strict action against the people who created the ruckus,” said Victor Somaya, state vice-president of the council.

The council members also urged the district administration to issue non-bailable warrants against the ABVP members who created the chaos on the campus. “The police released the activists, but we want non-bailable warrants issued against them as soon as possible,” added Somaya.
