Ranchi, Oct. 28: Bengali songs from golden era marked the Bijoya Sammelan at the oldest club of the capital — Union Club and Library.
Artistes from Jamshedpur and Calcutta rendered some of the famous numbers of the era that many members of the community, particularly the older generation, still find fascinating.
Despite being a bandh, a large audience turned up for the concert.
Mitali Ghosh of Ranchi opened the soiree and was followed by Anjan Roy Manasi Sen of Jamshedpur.
Other performers included Partha Sarathi Dutta from Jamshedpur and Kumarjit from Calcutta.
The programme, which was presented by Bulu Ghosh’s orchestra, included popular songs like Ganga amar ma and Tumi jamini ami shashi he and Gachher pata roder jhikimiki.
But as the audience included younger members, popular Bengali band songs were also performed.
The audience was reminded how Bangla bands evolved in the seventies when Goutam Chattopadhyay introduced his troupe Mahiner Ghoraguli.
Partha Sarathi Dutta performed songs by Bengali bands Bhoomi and Cactus and many others. All in all, it was an evening to remember for lovers of Bengali music.
