Jamshedpur: Renovation work at the Sitaramdera bus terminus is all set to begin from April.
Sources in Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (Juidco) said Asian Development Bank (ADB) had agreed to fund Rs 72.90 crore for renovating the bus terminus, which is currently plagued with broken passenger sheds, unhygienic toilets and poor drinking water facilities.
"Chief minister Raghubar Das has shown interest in the early execution of the project. The bus terminus will have a three-storey administrative block (G+2) and seven-storey (G+6) commercial block. The entire facility will come up on the 15,318sqm area in Sitaramdera," said a senior administrative official at Juidco.
"We had sent the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) to the state urban development department and the matter is now with Juidco," said Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) special officer Sanjay Kumar Pandey.
Juidco secretary-cum-project director (accounts) Amit Chakraborty said renovation of the bus terminus was among their top priorities.
"The DPR of the project was ready in mid-2017. We had earlier tried to go ahead with the project through PPP mode but the response was not that encouraging. However, Asian Development Bank (ADB) in a recent meeting has agreed to finance the project. We will soon float tenders for the purpose," said Chakraborty, adding the renovation work was expected to be complete within a year.
The G+2 administrative block will have nearly 60 bus parking spots and six bays (platforms), toilets, police control room, ticket and enquiry counters, air-conditioned waiting hall, elevators, shops for snacks, retail shops, administrative rooms and cloak rooms, among other facilities.
The commercial block will have 18 toilets for both men and women in each floor, escalator, banquet halls, reception room, drinking water facility, retail shops, suite rooms and dedicated private parking stands. There will also be a rest house for drivers along with service (repairing) stations for buses at the terminus.
Over 30,000 passengers travel in 400 buses that leave the terminus daily for various destinations in Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
