Jamshedpur, June 12: After receiving preliminary report on a probe into the SIM card scam, the general manager, BSNL Jamshedpur circle, S.C. Kaushal, has issued show-cause to two senior telecom officials.

Those served with the show-cause are the sub-divisional officer (mobile), T.S. Pillai, and the sub-divisional officer (CTO), R.D. Singh.

The BSNL authorities had initiated an investigation by the internal vigilance into the alleged fraud by a Delhi-based firm, Sanchar Infotech Ltd.

Despite the fact that the company had no existence, one of its officials, Rakesh Pandey, had managed to get as many as 64 post-paid SIM cards issued from BSNL?s Jamshedpur office.

The SIM cards were issued on December 15 last year from the office of the sub-divisional office (CTO) on the recommendation made by the sub-divisional (mobile) officer.

But the fraud came to light only after the company had failed to pay the bills amounting to a whopping Rs 12,18,146, which was just one month?s bill.

After going through the records as to how so many SIM cards were issued without proper verification, the BSNL authorities detected foul play, leading the general manager to order for a departmental inquiry.

According to insiders, after receiving the show-cause, both the sub-divisional officer (mobile) and the sub-divisional officer (CTO) are engaged in a blame-game against each other.

However, both of them are likely to face strong action as they were prima facie responsible for a huge revenue loss for the telecom organisation.

It may be mentioned here that the SIM card scam comes at a time when BSNL?s Jamshedpur circle is yet out of two more scams ? India Telecom Card scam and telephone call scam ? running into crores of rupees.
