Gold bond issue

Ranchi: All the 13 main post offices of the state have started issuing National Gold Bond 2016-17 (Series IV) from Monday. Application forms will be available till March 3 and should be submitted along with the KYC proof to buy the bonds.

Minimum investment in the bond is one gram and the maximum is 500 gram per person per fiscal. The bonds will earn an annual interest of 2.5 per cent.

Sita Soren

Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court reserved its order on Monday in a case filed by Jama MLA Sita Soren, challenging a case of abduction registered against her and pending before a CBI magistrate's court in the capital. Reena Devi has accused Sita of abducting her husband, Vikas Kumar, in December 2012, because he had testified against her in the Rajya Sabha horse trading case that year.

Review meet

Ranchi: State urban development minister C.P. Singh today held a review meeting with his department officials to ensure smooth execution of projects. Officials informed him about software glitches in online registration of vehicles. Singh also stressed streamlining of traffic in the capital.

Irrigation push

Ranchi: Water Resources minister Chandra Prakash Choudhary on Monday directed his department's principal secretary Sukhdeo Singh to begin the renovation of over 1,800 medium irrigation projects from April 1.

Post vacant

Ranchi: The state government has invited applications for filling up an information commissioner's post that will fall vacant on March 3 after P.R. Dash's retirement on attaining the age of 65.

Public relation

Ranchi: Principal secretary in the information and public relations department, Sanjay Kumar, on Monday asked the PR officers of different districts to ensure the full utilisation of the budgetary amounts or face punitive action. He also directed them to transfer the unused amounts to the department by Friday.

Governor tips

Hazaribagh: Governor Droupadi Murmu has said education is the only key to success for the society, state and the nation. Murmu, who was in Pirtand of Giridih on Monday to inspect Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, said women must be educated.

Goods gutted

Deoghar: Goods worth over Rs 20 lakh were gutted when a fire broke out in the Town thana area on Monday. Several vehicles parked near the shops and the wall of an adjoining house, too, were damaged. OC Arvind Upadhyay said three fire brigades brought fire under control in an hour.

Man on tower

Simdega: A mentally challenged man, who had climbed up a nearly 120-feet cellphone tower on Saturday, came down on Monday. OC Manoj Kumar said he was not able to tell his name.

Ajsu protest

Ranchi: Members of Ajsu Mahanagar Committee on Monday staged a protest on the banks of river Harmu against government apathy in river conservation.

Holding banners and party flags, they alleged that the river was dying but none is serious about its revival.

Poll results

Ranchi: Out of seven seats for Ranchi District Bar Association (RDBA) office-bearers, results of six were declared till Monday. Advocate Sambhu Prasad Agrawal was elected president while advocate Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi was declared elected for the post of general secretary. Rest of the result will be declared on Tuesday.

Burns victim

Ranchi: One Manju Bakhla (24) of Harmu in Argora police station area was admitted to Devkamal Hospital with 95 per cent burns late on Sunday night. Manju was living in with her friend Sandeep Kacchap. Police said it was a case of accident triggered by LPG cylinder leak.

Medical meet

Dhanbad: Haemophilia Federation of India organised a medical education session on Monday at Patliputra Medical College and Hospital. Experts from Calcutta and Ranchi stressed on the need for a daycare centre for haemophilia.

Abduction

Hazaribagh: One Manoj Kumar Mahto, a JCB driver, who was working for Ram Kripal Singh and Company was abducted on Sunday night by a few armed men posing as extremists from a construction site in Tatijharia. Mahto, however, was released on Monday afternoon after police raids.

Murder arrest

Jamshedpur: Police on Monday arrested Rabindra Singh Sardar in connection with the alleged murder of his wife Puspa Das at his house on Sunday in Tiruldih village in Potka thana area, around 18km from the city. The deceased was found hanging from a wooden beam on Monday. Police said that the deceased's brother Madhav Das had lodged an FIR against brother-in-law Rabindra.

The police have sent the accused to Ghaghidih Central Jail, having produced him before a judicial magistrate on Monday evening.

Burglary FIR

Jamshedpur: Unidentified persons decamped with cash and ornaments worth over Rs 2 lakh from a house in Krishna Tola in Kitadih under Parsudih thana area in the wee hours of Monday.

Police have registered a case of burglary based on an FIR lodged by owner Ravindra Singh.

Bike stolen

Jamshedpur: An unidentified person fled with a bike from near a house along the Straight Mile Road in Baradwari in the wee hours of Monday. Police have registered a case of theft based on an FIR lodged by owner Arun Kumar Singh.

DC approval

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar on Monday approved imposition of the stringent Crime Control Act (CCA) against four history-sheeters lodged in Ghagidih Central jail and owing allegiance to fugitive gangster Akhilesh Singh.

GST centre

Jamshedpur: Additional commissioner Central Excise and Service Tax, Jamshedpur, Debashish Sahu on Monday inaugurated GST migration facilitation centre at Central Excise building in Bistupur. The centre would remain open from 9.30am till 5.30pm on all working days. It would provide assistance to traders and entrepreneurs in uploading documents for registration.

Fatal accident

Jamshedpur: A 36-year-old pedestrian died on the spot after being dashed by a van near the JRD Tata Roundabout under Golmuri police station on Monday evening. Police said that the body, whose identity could not be ascertained, has been sent to MGM Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. The van driver had fled from the spot after the incident.
