Jamshedpur, Oct. 26: About 70 publishers would put up stalls during the 19th Jamshedpur book fair to be held at the Rabindra Bhavan ground from November 7 to 16.
The annual book fair is being organised by Tagore Society. Books in English, Hindi, Bengali, Santhali and Urdu would be up for grabs during the fair.
Preparations for the fair have started and hoardings at vantage corners of the city are being put up. Several schools and colleges have been informed of the venue.
According to Tagore Society assistant general secretary Ashish Chowdhury prominent English book publishers, including Oxford, Cambridge Timely, Script and Oxford Subscription would participate in the 10-day fair.
“Oxford Subscription are coming with books of HarperCollins and Rupa & Co,” he said.
Hindi book publishers — Pustak Mahal, Prakashan Sanstha, Geeta Press and some other publishing houses — have also confirmed their entry to the fair.
Anando Publishers, Mitro Ghosh, Dey’s Publishing, Vishwa Bharti, Kamini and Punasha are some of the prominent Bengali book publishers who would be putting up their stalls at the fair, Chowdhury said.
He said books on Santhali and Urdu would also be available by Ahmadia Publications and Azad Kitab Ghar and Adim Publishers, respectively.
Hindi and English books would also be available at Navnit Publishers, Arora Publishers and Chand & Co stall. The timings of the fair would be 2 pm to 8.30 pm from Monday to Friday and 10.30 am to 8.30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays with an entry ticket of Rs three per person.
Chowdhury said they would be providing credit cards to the students of Tagore Society and Tagore School of Arts. The school management would pay for the books and the money would be collected from the students in instalments,” he said.
Chowdhury said they were also planning a cultural programme at the fair. “Cultural programmes add colour to the atmosphere,” he said. He added that adequate security arrangements would be made during the fair.
According to him, local publishers and their counterparts from different parts of the steel city are putting up Santhali bookstalls.
