When it comes to numbers, few can beat the young minds of Bokaro.
As many as 11 students from the district have again cracked the regional mathematics olympiad code.
The annual contest for junior (Classes IX to XI) and senior (Class XII) groups is organised by the National Board for Higher Mathematics and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. This year, the examination was held on December 4.
Although of the total 29 students selected in both the groups (six senior and 23 junior), the majority of 13 are from Ranchi. Bokaro’s claim to fame is that the top slots in the two sections were bagged by students from the district.
Jamshedpur has three students on the list and Deoghar two, clearly showing that Santhal Pargana has a lot of catching up to do.
The topper in the senior group is Aman Kumar Kedia, a Class XII student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, while Class XI student of DPS School, Bokaro, Arna Ghosh came first in the junior category.
Three other students of Chinmaya Vidyalaya feature among the final six selected in the senior group.
The authorities of both DPS School and Chinmaya Vidyalaya hailed the results, saying that this proved that the students of Bokaro steel city were among the best brains of the country.
“If given more opportunities, these students can excel in the international level,” said adviser of DPS, Bokaro, Hemlata S. Mohan, congratulating the students for making both the district and the school proud.
Principal of Chinmaya Ashok Kumar Singh could not agree more.
