A grab from benazirbhutto.com. The site will now be used for interaction between India and Pakistan |
Jamshedpur, Jan. 20: Could taking over a website popular in Pakistan help bridge the communication gap between the two neighbouring countries? So thinks a team at a city-based web developing company.
The owner of Infogate Exporters Private Limited (IEPL) is now managing the portal www.benazirbhutto.com to fulfil the communication requirement of the people from both countries.
“We took over the website for spreading the message of peace among people of India and Pakistan. Our plan to stick to that idea and ensure that the website is used for same purpose,” said Shamim Khan, the new managing director of the website.
Dedicated to the life of Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto, the website was owned by Lahore-based Zubair Koranz a fan of Benazir Bhutto.
Shamin Khan the new managing director of www.benazirbhutto.com said the website was started way back in 2001 for popularising Bhutto. The website initially provided the entire profile of Bhutto. However, after her death in the year 2007, the portal tried to expose the assailants of the leader. It requested its members to provide whatever details they could to find those who killed Bhutto.
Sudhir Kumar, the director of IEPL, explained since Bhutto’s assassination was a matter internal to Pakistan, they do not want to carry on with it. Instead, they want to use the platform to spread a new message.
“I was looking for a website which is popular in the neighbouring country. It would not be difficult to attract the people of India onto this website now,” he said.
To start with, the website owners plan to start a friendship forum through, which the common masses from across the border could interact and give their views on the present stand-off between the two nations.
Kumar claimed that more forums and discussions would also be started on this site — all aiming to bring about amity between India and Pakistan. “The recent Mumbai terror attack has brought both the nations to the brink of war and there is a need to communicate between the common people. I am not sure about my leaders, but the people of both the country are against violence,” added Kumar.
Earlier, Infogate Exporters Private Limited had launched the first Bhojpuri website, www.bhojpuria.com.
