Jamshedpur, Oct. 23: Bengal made it to the boys’ and girls’ finals of the 66th East Zone Badminton Championship, underway at Mohan Ahuja Stadium.

Bengal shuttlers came up with an impressive show by defeating hosts Jharkhand in the semi-finals for Narang Cup while the girls’ outfit drubbed Bihar in the other last four clash for Shafi Quereshi Cup.

The boys and girls from Bengal will take on Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh in the summit clash tomorrow. Uttarakhand outplayed Uttar Pradesh 2-1, which, however, took revenge by posting a 2-0 win over Uttarakhand in the eve’s semis.

Jharkhand failed to capitalise on a fine start by Shafi Akram, who won the first singles tie 21-19, 4-21, 21-14 against Ronjoy Das.

Chandrajeet Jha surrendered the advantage by losing to Pallav Bose 12-21, 14-21 in the second match. Jharkhand also cut a sorry figure in the doubles with Shafi and Chandrajeet failing against the pair of Pallav and Trenankur Nag 17-21, 17-21.
