Ranchi, April 4: Wow was the spontaneous expression of the audience who came to watch the premiere of Nagpuri feature film Baha (Wild Flower) at Sujata today.

The film has been produced and directed by the only National Filmfare Award winning film-maker from the state — Sriprakash. He received the award for his documentary Burugarha.

Last year, the feature film had bagged a special filmmaker award at Black Cinema International, Berlin.

“I liked the music very much. Camera work and selection of locations are simply great,” said Anil Sikdar, the director of the first Nagpuri feature film Jharkhand Kar Chaila, which premiered at Sujata last week.

He added that the film had all the elements of a mainstream film and would run for weeks. “Our films lack nothing, except for promotion and marketing.

“I appeal to the theatre owners of the state to screen and promote our movies,” said Sikdar.

The 114-minute film depicts the impact of technology on the regional and tribal music. The cast and locales of the film are local.

The story unfolded through the experiences of David, the protagonist (played by Praduman Nayak), who wanted to pursue a career in music, defying his parents who wanted him to be a doctor or engineer.

“The film depicts the struggle of Jharkhand youths to get a foothold in new fields,” said Meghnath, another documentary film-maker. The audience included Padma Shri Ram Dayal Munda and deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto.
