Ranchi, Feb. 21: Ramdev might be teaching others breathing exercises to calm the mind and body but that did not stop the yoga expert from breathing fire at the communists who seem to be stepping on his foot quiet too often.
What has peeved the baba is a PIL filed against him by CPI state secretariat member Khagendra Thakur opposing his inclination to hold yoga camps for school students and teachers right before the board exams.
The CPI member had even protested against the fact that the notification was issued by the district education officer and the district superintendent of education.
Though Thakur?s party launched a damage control with CPI national general secretary A.B. Bardhan asking his men to lay off the baba and party spokesperson K.D. Singh clarifying that the PIL was filed by Thakur ?in his individual capacity?, the yoga guru did not seem to be in a mood to forgive them.
Terming the PIL ?shameful?, he wondered why the communists had filed the complaint when students in large numbers were turning up to attend his camps in other cities.
?There were over 50,000 students in Kota and over 60,000 in Surat. The students are the future of India and the country will benefit if they remain healthy and fit through yoga,? he said on the third day of his week-long camp.
Lashing out at the communists ? with whom he has already had a spat over the contents of his herbal medicines ? the baba said they were hampering his mission to make India healthy.
?It is not new for them. They have never been loyal to the country. The traitors supported China during the Indo-China war and called Netaji a dog. I am a nationalist and loyal to my country and I will continue opposing the traitors till the end of my life,? he said.
It also irritated him that the communists were in favour of Yaun Shiksha (sex education) in schools but not Yog Shiksha.
The PIL filed at high court yesterday had pointed out that yoga could not be made a compulsory subject in schools.
?They treat sex like a saleable commodity. It is like having tea for them. You can have a cup at one stall and the second cup at another,? fired the baba as he taught yoga postures to a crowd of over 20,000 people, including chief minister Arjun Munda, Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari, chief secretary M.K. Mandal and many other VVIPs.
According to him, the Left thought of the PIL after having failed to malign his image by alleging that his herbal drugs contained animal and human parts.
The allegation was thrown at him by early in the year by CPM leader Brinda Karat.
Towards the end of the session, the bearded baba seemed more at peace, sharing with his audience a vision of a healthy India where in yoga plays a revolutionary role.
?Yoga came in a simple way and found its way in the hearts of millions when different countries were finding ways to provide health services to all its citizens. Eighty per cent people of India do not get medical facilities from the state forcing them to do the treatment on their own.
?The system does not provide facilities to the poor. I have ploughed the field and know the miseries of a poor man. In the next five years, the yoga revolution will make India a new force in medical science and the world will look at it for health solutions,? he said, urging the mesmerised audience to practice pranayam yet again.
