After sculptor Dilip Toppo, Ranchi-based visual artist Vinod Ranjan will enthral art lovers at Saniparab, a weekly art and cultural programme being held at Dr Ramdayal Munda Kala Bhavan in Hotwar every Saturday since September 28.

Ranjan’s creations — 25 paintings exploring myriad subjects like social and economic issues, environment and natural disaster — will be up for display on October 5-6. Last Saturday, Toppo, who also hails from the city, had exhibited his sculptures at the forum presented by the state art and culture department.

Like last week, this time too, a cultural programme will be held featuring tribal folk dance, Odissi and a play.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Ranjan hailed the concept of Saniparab, saying it offered a great platform to artists to exhibit their works. “Every artist will get an opportunity to present his or her art work here. It has been possible because of the immense support provided by the state government,” he said.

“My paintings speak about all issues starting from female infanticide to tribal lifestyle et al. The prices are quite nominal and anyone can purchase them,” the artist added.

Chief minister Hemant Soren launched the weekly event last Saturday. A cultural programme was staged then too. Tribal folk performers from Dumka and Seraikela impressed the audience. There was a rendition of ghazals too.

Assistant director of state art and culture department Vijay Paswan said their main aim was to provide exposure to both visual and tribal folk artistes. “We also want to generate awareness about our talents in arts and the cultural field among the people of Ranchi,” Paswan said.
