Jamshedpur, May 17: The city-based Jamshedpur Dairy, a unit of the Bihar State Co-operative Milk Producer’s Federation (Comfed), will tie up with the Gujarat-based Amul Milk Dairy to produce flavoured-milk at its Gamharia plant.
Talking to The Telegraph after launching Sudha Lite, a low fat milk in pouches, here today, chief manager of Jamshedpur Dairy A.K. Kulkarni said Amul had decided to increase the market of flavoured milk, which is a hit among the urban population
Kulkarni said senior officials from Amul Milk Dairy, the largest cooperative for milk production in the country, had last month visited the Jamshedpur Dairy and discussed the possibilities of flavoured milk production.
“We are looking forward to the tie-up with Amul. The tie-up will cater to the needs of the growing consumers of Jamshedpur Dairy,” said Kulkarni, adding that the flavoured milk is in great demand in several states.
Comfed has introduced a chain of indigenous milk products. The produce is marketed in the brand name of Sudha.
Catering to the needs of over one lakh consumers in the city and its adjoining areas, the Jamshedpur Dairy, which started its operation in 1984, sells 80,000 litres of milk per day. It started production and marketing of Paneer, Fitness Curd, Lassi and Mishti Doi in 1995-96, Kulkarni said.
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Nidhi Khare said efforts were being made to make 20,000 litres of milk available to Jamshedpur Dairy through rearing cattle at a local level.
Jamshedpur Dairy fulfils its requirements by procuring about 60,000 litres of milk from Barauni in Bihar.
