Ranchi, April 12: Doordarshan?s live telecast of the sixth ODI cricket match at Jamshedpur was more irritating than entertaining, cricket fans here said.
?It was not the first instance of the DD?s irritating telecast. Whenever it telecasts a cricket match, it appears to be more keen to switch to advertisements, as if viewers are more interested in ads,? said Sunil Kumar Sinha.
Advertisements are normally shown between the overs, he said, but today it was quite irritating when the viewers were forced to watch an advertisement even before the umpire signalled the end of an over.
?What makes DD more irritating is that the moment the play stops, even if only a second, say when a player is injured or is being attended upon, the telecast switches to a series of advertisements. As a result the viewers are deprived from watching the events that constitute the game,? Sinha added.
Another viewer, Rajesh Kumar, said DD does not even bother to let the audiences listen to the commentators? viewpoints.
?Whenever they start explaining a particular shot or dismissal, advertisements pop up, and by the time the match is telecast, it is after the next ball has been bowled. It has become a habit with DD that even at the slightest stoppage in the game the telecast moves away from cricket,? he complained.
Abrupt breaks during commentators? speeches mean viewers missing out on interesting analysis of the game, which makes match-watching a fun.
Equally irritating is the commentary in Hindi, by Rajinder Amarnath and Gurpreet Singh, the audience said.
Take this comment from the duo: ?Woh ball aise marte hain ki ball chahe boundary paar kar jaati hai, ya seedhe fielder ke paas jaati hai. (He hits the ball in such a way that it either crosses the boundary or goes straight to a fielder.) ?Tell me, how else does a batsman play a ball,? asked an irritated Kumar.
