Dhanbad, June 15: Scores of undergraduate students of PK Roy Memorial College sat on a dharna today in protest against errors in admit cards issued by Vinoba Bhave University (VBU).
The protesters, who are preparing for their Part-I examination slated to begin from June 25, alleged that the varsity mentioned wrong language paper on the admit cards of a number of students.
The students, who were agitating under the banner of Dhanbad Chhatra Jan Shakti Manch, threatened to launch an indefinite strike if the varsity failed to rectify the mistakes within two days.
According to university norms, students of all streams — BSc, BA and BCom — have to appear for a language paper of their choice — either only Hindi of 100 marks or Alternative English and Non-Hindi each of 50 marks.
Nikita Kumari, a geology honours student, said she had opted for the combination of Alternative English and Non-Hindi while filling up the registration form, but her admit card showed Hindi Literature as her language paper. “I have never studied a word of this subject,” she said.
Similarly, Azhar Raza, Shubham Chaurasia, Uttam Kumar and several other students claimed to have received “wrong” admit cards.
A delegation of the aggrieved students, led by students’ union president Raj Anand, also met college principal D.K. Verma. “VBU officials admitted that there were some printing mistakes. We will correct the errors on the admit cards and send them to the varsity,” Verma said.
The students withdrew their stir following the principal’s assurance but threatened to go on the warpath if the corrections were not done by Tuesday.
