Jamshedpur, June 24: RSB Transmissions, a fast-growing engineering unit in Adityapur, today acquired 70 per cent stake in Belgium-based firm Mechanical Supplies International (MSI).
This was the second acquisition by the engineering company in the past four years. In November 2006, RSB Transmissions had acquired Michigan-based Miller Brothers Manufacturing, which has been rechristened as RSB NA (North America). It’s a speciality auto-transmission component manufacturing company.
“It is a big development. The acquisition of majority stake in MSI provides immense synergy benefits to both RSB and MSI. RSB, which exports substantial heavy fabrications to Europe, can now have a front-end presence in Europe to consolidate and increase its exports,” said S.K. Behera, the managing director of RSB Transmission.
According to Behera, European customers would have greater comfort in conducting business with RSB following the acquisition.
“Moreover, heavy fabrications which were otherwise logistically impossible to be ferried from India to Europe can now be offered by RSB and MSI together,” he said, adding that the sub-assemblies would be manufactured in India and final assembling and finishing work could be done at MSI.
MSI, situated in the city of Tessenderlo, manufactures heavy fabrication aggregates for excavators, off-highway machines and windmills that are similar to RSB products manufactured at its Jamshedpur, Dharwad and Chennai plants. Both MSI and RSB have identical technology, process and machines.
RSB Group chairman R.K. Behera said they had already commenced exports to Terex Europe and with this association, RSB expected to deepen its engagement with Terex. “In this manner, the export business is set to grow,” he added.
