Thanks to their prowess in yoga, two Jharkhand girls are making the world sit up and take note.

Meet national-level yoga champions Anushka Karmakar (11) and Anusha Karmakar (16) who are in Bangkok to participate in the 5th Asian Yoga Sports Championship that kicked off on Friday.

Both Anusha and Anuska will showcase around eight asanas in a time span of 150 seconds.

Organised by Kriya Yoga Asia Company Limited at Swissotel Nai Lert Park in Bangkok, Thailand, under the aegis of Asian Yoga Federation, the three-day meet will conclude on Sunday when the world will join these participants to celebrate International Yoga Day.

Anushka and Anusha, the only female practitioners from Jharkhand, are part of a seven-member squad from Jharkhand State Yoga Association. Both got a chance after they had qualified in the 39th National Yogasanas Sports Championship, which was held between December 26 and 29 last year at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. They flew to Bangkok on Thursday evening.

From all over India, altogether 42 yoga practitioners are participating in the meet.

An elated Sanjay Jha, general secretary of Jharkhand State Yoga Association, told The Telegraph over phone from Bangkok, "Both girls are individually participating in the junior category artistic yogasana contest that primarily consists of showcasing various types of asanas. They will also perform together under the Asian Artistic Pair Yogasana Championship."

"We are hopeful that both will clinch gold medals, as their postures and synchronisation of body movements are excellent," he added.

Asked about the itinerary of the meet, Jha said, "The competition began at 9am on Friday. The annual general meeting of Asian Yoga Federation will be in the evening."
