7 players in Indian squad

State champions to take part in Wushu tourney in Georgia from June 24

Ranchi, June 18: As many as seven players from Jharkhand have made their way into the 21-member national wushu contingent which will represent India in the 9th international wushu championship scheduled to take place in Tbilisi, Georgia, between June 24 and 27.

From Jharkhand, Amasee Barla has been selected in the 52kg category while Prashant Gorai will represent in the 56kg event.

Other players in the 60kg category are Phool Kumari Bedia, Pramod Kumar Bedia, Abhay Mehta, Sunita Gari and Deepak Gope. This apart, Shivendra Dubey is named as team leader Braj Singh as observer. Jharkhand Wushu Association informed this at a news conference on Saturday. Sunil Sahu, president of the outfit said that it's a matter of great pride for Jharkhand to be part of the national contingent for the prestigious meet in Georgia.

Dubey said that the team from Jharkhand will head for New Delhi on Monday. "From there, the Indian team will leave for the tournament on June 22," he said.

About those selected from Jharkhand, Dubey said all the players who made it to the national squad are highly experienced.

"For example, Amasee is an international medalist and had won gold in 10th HongKong International Wushu Championship in February 2012. Similarly, other players too have several national and state medals in their kitties," he added.
