Jamshedpur, Nov. 8: Five candidates, in the fray from three Assembly constituencies — Jamshedpur (East), Jamshedpur (West) and Jugsalai — possess assets worth more than a crore.
The details submitted by candidates while filing their nominations reveal that central secretary of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) Abhay Singh, former revenue and land reforms minister Dulal Bhuiyan, Congress candidate Banna Gupta, BJP’s Rakhi Rai and JMM’s Mohan Karmakar are all crorepatis.
While Gupta and Karmakar are contesting from Jamshedpur (West), Bhuiyan and Rai will lock horns at Jugsalai. Singh is contesting from Jamshedpur (East).
The richest among the five is Abhay Singh, who has movable and immovable property worth Rs 4.20 crore. As per the affidavit, most of Singh’s assets are in joint ownership with his family and alone he owns property valued at Rs 1.30 crore. Singh also owns a hotel and four industrial units.
The second name on the rich list is that of JMM candidate from Jamshedpur (west) Karmakar who has property worth around Rs 1.38 crore.
Not too far behind are the two leading candidates from Jugsalai constituency, Bhuiyan and Rai, who own property valued at Rs 1.24 crore and Rs 1.18 crore, respectively. Rai has said she owns two flats and 15 cottah land valued at Rs 1.10 crore. Banna is the other candidate from Jamshedpur (West) who has assets worth over a crore, Rs 1.17 crore.
Other than the rich candidates, the 35 Independents are also generating much interest. While 15 Independent candidates have filed nomination forms from Jamshedpur (West), 14 are trying their luck from Jamshedpur (East) and six from Jugsalai.
In the last Assembly elections held in 2005, five Independent candidates were in the fray from Jamshedpur (West), while three each battled it out from Jamshedpur (East) and Jugsalai. The final list of candidates will be decided on November 11, after the administration completes scrutiny of nomination papers filed by various candidates.
