Eleven steel units from across the country will be engaged in willow war in the all India Inter-steel Plants Cricket Champion to be held at Keenan Stadium and Telco grounds in Jamshedpur from February 16 (Thursday) to February 22.
Organised by Tata Steel, the matches will be played in T20 format. The week-long event will be inaugurated by Rituraj Sinha, chief (corporate services), Tata Steel.
"A total of 170 players and officials will participate. All the matches will be played according to BCCI rules," said organising secretary Avinash Kumar.
Durgapur Steel Plant, Tata Steel, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, Indian Steel Plant-Burnpur, Bokaro Steel Limited, Jindal Steel Plant-Bellary, Alloy Steels Plant-Durgapur, Jindal Steel & Power-Raigarh and Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Limited- Bhadravati will vie for the top honours.
According to Kumar, several talented young cricketers will participate in the event.
Keenan Stadium will host both the semi-finals and finals on February 21 and February 22, respectively. All the matches of the above championship will be officiated by qualified umpires of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association and from different steel plant units.
The inaugural match will be played between Jindal Steel Plant-Bellary and Indian Steel Plant-Burnpur from 9am.
