All the buildings, the facades of the buildings whether residential or commercial, along the 2.5-kilometre long grand road, (Bada Danda), the street connecting the 12th century shrine Puri Shree Jagannath Temple, to the Shree Gundicha Temple, will be painted in a uniform colour.
Shree Gundicha Temple is a common place of the festivities during the annual Rath Yatra.
The buildings located on the street covering a distance of 2.5 km, will be painted in a uniform colour before January 17, 2024, the day when the Rs 800 crore Heritage Corridor project around the 12th century shrine will be dedicated to the people by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Sub collector, Puri, Bhabatarana Sahu told The Telegraph: “It has been decided to paint all the buildings, both private and government, in a uniform colour. Discussions are on to finalise the colour.”
Sources said the administration is insisting that all the buildings be painted in light pink colour. Sources said the colour was chosen out of the 12 colours by the officials. Steps are being taken to convince the stakeholders to adopt it.
“All the stakeholders agreed to a uniform colour. But there might be different opinions regarding the choice of the colours. We have to respect the sentiments of the stakeholders. However, the painting job will be completed before January 17,” said Sahu.
